The Point of Wellbeing offers a range of services within each consultation. Chinese medicine is all about treating the body in it’s entirety and this may involve more than one therapy.
Paige will discuss the best therapies for your specific health goals in each treatment.
Acupuncture is a technique used by Chinese medicine practitioners, which involves the insertion of fine, medical grade, single use needles into specific points on the body. These points lie on meridians which connect to internal organs and can therefore strengthen or reduce the energy of that particular organ. In Chinese medicine, disease is seen as an imbalance of the energy of the internal organs and so Acupuncture’s aim is to rectify this imbalance and therefore alleviate disease.
Also known as Ear Acupuncture or Auriculotherapy. This treatment technique involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the ear. Your ears have almost as many points to locate as points on the entire human body! We can therefore treat a wide range of conditions and symptoms with ear acupuncture and often leave ‘press needles’ in place for up to five days following your treatment, especially for musculoskeletal and anxiety conditions.
Moxibustion is a technique which involves the burning of a specific herb, mugwort (or artemesia vulgaris or ai ye in Chinese) to strengthen and warm the body, stimulate blood flow, stimulate digestion, disperse knots in muscles and maintain general health. It can be burnt directly onto the skin or on the end of the needle. This therapy is extremely safe when performed by qualified practitioners and is also extremely relaxing.
Chinese Herbal Therapy
The Point of Wellbeing prescribes patented herbs specific to your diagnosis. Herbs assist your acupuncture treatments by alleviating pain, strengthening the energy of specific internal organs, removing excess heat or regulating the energy of your internal organs.
This form of acupuncture still involves the insertion of needles into specific points, but with the addition of a small electric current to the needles. You may experience a deep, aching sensation but it is not painful. This therapy strengthens your acupuncture treatment and is used to treat stubborn pain conditions and induce labour in pregnancy.
